📊 Analysis & Strategy

🏫 Programs (21)

University of British Columbia, School of Nursing
Strong fit UBC is one of SpaceCat's strongest fits. The combination of (1) a resettable 30-credit GPA window, (2) high CASPer weight (~33%), and (3) a supplemental application where her shelter work and writing skills can shine means all three evaluation pillars work in her favor with strategic preparation. The main considerations are relocation to Vancouver and the out-of-province move.
University of New Brunswick, Faculty of Nursing
Strong fit The transparent 60/40 GPA/CASPer formula strongly favors SpaceCat's profile. The 46-credit rolling GPA window is fully resettable, CASPer weight is substantial at 40%, and only 46 credit hours (not a full degree) are required for eligibility. The small cohort (49 seats) and early November 15 deadline are considerations, as is relocation to Moncton.
University of Saskatchewan, College of Nursing
Strong fit (if program reopens). USask would be one of SpaceCat's best fits if it were accepting applications. The 40% CASPer weight is the highest available, and the 60-credit GPA window is fully resettable. Combined, these mean SpaceCat could build a strong application through upgrading courses + her existing CASPer strength. However, the program is currently ON HOLD for Winter 2027, the cohort is tiny (~28 students), and no reopening timeline has been announced. Worth monitoring closely but cannot be actively applied to at this time.
Brock University, Department of Nursing, Faculty of Applied Health Sciences
Moderate fit The Statement of Interest and possible interview could showcase SpaceCat's shelter work experience and motivation. However, the lack of CASPer means her strongest non-academic asset cannot be deployed. The small cohort (~18-30 students) makes this highly competitive. SpaceCat should clarify whether additional post-degree coursework would be counted in the "final two years" GPA calculation.
St. Francis Xavier University (StFX), Rankin School of Nursing
Moderate fit The fully resettable 30-credit GPA window is a strong advantage, making GPA upgrading straightforward. However, admission is entirely GPA-dependent with no way to showcase experiential strengths or CASPer performance. Nova Scotia residents receive priority, which is a disadvantage for an out-of-province applicant. The $3,000 entrance award is a nice perk. The small-town Antigonish setting requires relocation.
Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU, formerly Ryerson University), Daphne Cockwell School of Nursing
Moderate fit The "best 20 courses" GPA calculation is moderately favorable — it already filters out SpaceCat's worst grades, and new strong courses can further improve the selection pool. However, admission is purely grades-based (no CASPer, no interview, no essays, no references), so her experiential profile and high CASPer provide no benefit. This is a brand-new program (Fall 2026 inaugural cohort), so competitive GPA thresholds are unknown. The 5-year recency requirement on prerequisites and prior coursework is a consideration — SpaceCat's Dalhousie courses must fall within 5 years of the program start date.
Trent University, Trent/Fleming School of Nursing (collaborative with Fleming College)
Moderate fit The fully resettable GPA window is the key advantage — if SpaceCat commits to upgrading courses with strong grades, Trent becomes viable. However, admission is entirely GPA-dependent with no way to leverage her experiential profile or CASPer score. Ontario residency avoids the ~23% out-of-province tuition premium. The 28-month duration is longer than most accelerated programs.
University of Alberta, Faculty of Nursing
Moderate fit The CASPer requirement helps, but the unclear GPA calculation and lack of any written or experiential component limit SpaceCat's ability to leverage her strongest assets. The simple application process means admission hinges primarily on GPA, which is her weakest area. Worth pursuing only after clarifying the AGPA calculation with the Faculty of Nursing.
University of Manitoba, College of Nursing, Rady Faculty of Health Sciences
Moderate fit The large cohort (360/year) and relatively low AGPA cutoff (~3.0) make this one of the more accessible programs. However, admission is purely AGPA-based — SpaceCat's experiential profile and high CASPer provide no benefit. The weighted formula rewards strong science prerequisite grades (30% weight), which SpaceCat would need to take fresh. Three intakes per year offer scheduling flexibility. Out-of-province applicants should confirm there is no Manitoba residency preference. No tuition differential for out-of-province students.
University of Prince Edward Island, Faculty of Nursing
Moderate fit The 30% CASPer weight helps and the prerequisite-based GPA is fully resettable, but PEI residents get priority for the small 28-seat cohort. As an out-of-province applicant, SpaceCat would need a notably strong application to secure one of the limited remaining seats. The low tuition (~$20,000 total) and January start date are appealing, but the residency priority and tiny cohort are significant barriers.
Western University, Arthur Labatt Family School of Nursing, Faculty of Health Sciences
Moderate fit The fully resettable GPA window is a significant advantage for SpaceCat. However, admission is purely GPA-driven — SpaceCat's experiential profile and high CASPer cannot help here. She must achieve a competitive GPA through coursework alone. If she commits to a year of strong upgrading courses, Western CTF becomes viable. Ontario residency gives her a tuition advantage and no deprioritization.
Dalhousie University, School of Nursing, Faculty of Health Professions
Reach The resettable 30-credit GPA window and CASPer requirement are favorable. However, the program strongly prioritizes Nova Scotia residents (~90% of seats), and SpaceCat would need to either establish NS residency (one year of full-time work in the province) or compete for approximately 5 out-of-province seats. If SpaceCat is or becomes an NS resident, this improves to a moderate fit. As an out-of-province applicant, the residency barrier makes this a reach.
McMaster University, School of Nursing
Reach The CASPer component is a genuine advantage for SpaceCat and McMaster is one of the few programs where it can offset GPA. However, the competitive GPA range (90-93%) is extremely high, and even with a strong CASPer, a significant GPA gap is difficult to overcome with only 20% weighting. The sub-GPA window is resettable, but reaching the 90%+ range requires near-perfect grades across ~18 courses.
Memorial University of Newfoundland (MUN)
Reach The GPA flexibility (best of three calculations) is a meaningful advantage for upgrading. However, admission is purely GPA-based with no way to showcase experiential strengths or CASPer performance. NL residents get priority, and the program is only available in Corner Brook (population ~20,000), requiring significant relocation. The 3-year duration is longer than most accelerated programs. The St. John's campus option is paused with no reinstatement timeline.
Queen's University, School of Nursing (Faculty of Health Sciences)
Reach The cumulative GPA calculation is unfavorable for someone with a weaker GPA, and there is no CASPer to offset it. The supplementary application (Kira Talent written + video responses, if required for AST) could showcase her experiential background and communication skills, which is a partial positive. However, with only ~30 seats and described as "extremely competitive," the GPA hurdle is significant.
University of Toronto, Lawrence Bloomberg Faculty of Nursing
Reach The written supplementary components are a significant advantage for SpaceCat's profile, but U of T is extremely competitive (acceptance rate ~16%, competitive GPA well above B+). The GPA window is resettable with one semester of strong courses, but the bar is very high. No CASPer to offset.
York University, School of Nursing, Faculty of Health
Reach Admission is primarily academics-based (GPA + supplementary form, no CASPer, no interview). SpaceCat's strong experiential background (shelter work) and writing skills may help on the supplementary form, but her weaker GPA is a significant barrier given the "mid- to high 80s" competitive range, and there is no CASPer to offset it.
Carleton University, School of Nursing (Faculty of Science)
Not viable This is a first-entry program designed for direct entry from high school, not a second-entry or accelerated program for BA holders. SpaceCat would start from Year 1 alongside high school graduates and complete a full 3-year curriculum with no advanced standing for her existing degree. There is no dedicated pathway for external second-degree applicants — the limited transfer option is restricted to current Carleton students. This program does not serve SpaceCat's goal of an accelerated second-entry nursing pathway.
Lakehead University, School of Nursing
Not viable This is a first-entry program designed for direct entry from high school, not a second-entry or accelerated program for BA holders. SpaceCat would start from Year 1 alongside high school graduates and complete the full 3-year compressed curriculum with no advanced standing for her existing degree. Transfer applicants from other nursing programs "should expect to begin Lakehead Nursing programs in Year 1." This program does not serve SpaceCat's goal of an accelerated second-entry nursing pathway.
Seneca Polytechnic, Seneca Nanji Foundation School of Nursing
Not viable This is a first-entry program designed for direct entry from high school, not a second-entry or accelerated program for BA holders. Despite the "Fast Track" label, it is simply the standard 4-year BScN compressed into 3 years by eliminating summer breaks. Admission is based on high school courses, not university credentials. SpaceCat would start from Year 1 with no advanced standing for her existing degree. This program does not serve SpaceCat's goal of an accelerated second-entry nursing pathway.
University of Ottawa, School of Nursing, Faculty of Health Sciences
Not viable The program is currently suspended "until further notice" and is described as "under revision." No timeline for reopening has been published, and admission requirements may change when/if it resumes. SpaceCat cannot apply to this program in its current state. If the program reopens, it would need to be reassessed against the updated requirements.
