🩺 Standard Nursing (BScN)

📊 Analysis & Strategy

🏫 Programs (46)

Brandon University
Strong fit The 70/30 academic/CASPer split works well for SpaceCat. The GPA is calculated solely on Year 1 pre-nursing courses (a complete reset). With 30% CASPer weight and a very high CASPer score, SpaceCat gets a substantial boost. The pre-nursing year includes courses like Anatomy & Physiology, Microbiology, Statistics, English, and nursing-specific courses -- all taken fresh. Minimum GPA of 2.5 is low. 60 seats total with equity seats reserved for Indigenous and applicants of Color. The catch: Brandon is a small city in Manitoba, and the cohort is only 60 students.
Mount Royal University
Strong fit -- Mount Royal is arguably THE BEST fit among all 4-year BScN programs for SpaceCat's profile. THE KEY QUESTION answered: Post-secondary applicants are ranked on only their 4 most recent transferable courses (expanding to 8 for final admission). HS marks are NOT used for post-secondary applicants. SpaceCat could take just 4-8 courses to fully reset her competitive GPA. The 2.5 minimum GPA is very low. The competitive range of 3.4-3.8 is achievable with focused upgrading. Acuity Insights (CASPer) is used as a tiebreaker when academic scores are close, and SpaceCat's high CASPer score is a major advantage. The small GPA window (4-8 courses) combined with CASPer tiebreaker makes this one of the most accessible programs. The catch: competitive GPA of 3.4-3.8 requires strong grades in those 4-8 courses.
University of British Columbia, School of Nursing
Strong fit -- This is a genuinely excellent option for SpaceCat. Despite the confusing label, UBC's "standard" BSN is actually a **third-year entry program** requiring 48+ university credits (which SpaceCat has from her BA). The GPA window is the most recent 30 credits (~10 courses = fully resettable in 1 year). CASPer is required (SpaceCat's strength). A supplemental application provides additional opportunity to show non-academic strengths. Competitive averages for admitted students have been 80-86%. Anatomy & physiology prerequisite (within 5 years) would need to be completed. SpaceCat enters at 3rd year and completes in 5 consecutive terms (~20 months). The only downsides: BC residency preference (but not a hard block), and the program is competitive (~500-600 applicants for ~120 spots).
University of New Brunswick
Strong fit -- UNB has one of the most favourable admission formulas for SpaceCat. THE KEY QUESTION: University applicants are evaluated on the MOST RECENT 24 credit hours (8 courses) with a 3.0/70% minimum. This is a resettable window: SpaceCat could take 8 courses (~1 year) to fully reset her GPA. PLUS, GPA is only 60% of the admission score -- CASPer is a massive 40%. SpaceCat's high CASPer could offset a GPA gap significantly. The Grade 12 prereqs (70% each, 75% overall in Bio, Chem, English, Math) are also required, and SpaceCat's strong HS marks should easily meet these. The combination of resettable GPA window (24 credits) + 40% CASPer weight makes UNB one of the strongest fits across all programs. Fredericton is reasonably accessible from Ontario. The mature student pathway (12 credit hours, 3.0 average) could also apply.
University of Saskatchewan
Strong fit Potentially one of the best options. The 60/40 academic/CASPer split is exceptional. SpaceCat's very high CASPer score carries 40% of her admission score. She only needs to do well in 10 specific pre-professional courses (the other 60%). Grade replacement means she can retake any course and only the highest mark counts. The pre-professional year functions as a complete GPA reset since only those 10 specific courses matter. Her BA GPA is irrelevant. The catch: she must relocate to Saskatchewan for Year 1 (pre-professional year) and then Years 2-4. BUT the 40% CASPer weight is an enormous advantage.
Vancouver Community College (VCC)
Strong fit -- VCC has the best combination of features for SpaceCat among BC BSN programs: (1) very small GPA window (18 credits / ~6 courses, fully resettable); (2) CASPer required and used in ranking (SpaceCat's high CASPer is a major asset); (3) low minimum GPA (2.33). The GPA + CASPer combination means SpaceCat's high CASPer can directly offset a moderate prerequisite GPA. The 3-year program with CASN accreditation is efficient. BC's Ministry of Health also offers a $2,000 Nursing Tuition Grant.
Vancouver Island University (VIU)
Strong fit -- VIU has the most transparent and favorable CASPer weighting of all BC BSN programs: 40% CASPer + 60% GPA. SpaceCat's very high CASPer at 40% weight could substantially offset a moderate GPA. The "most recent 60 credits" GPA window is resettable. The minimum GPA is low (2.33). Between CASPer weight and a resettable GPA window, this is one of the strongest options in BC. Located in Nanaimo on Vancouver Island.
Brock University (Department of Nursing, Faculty of Applied Health Sciences)
Moderate fit Brock explicitly accepts university transfer students into the BScN with a minimum of B- (~70%) based on "most recent undergraduate university studies." This is critical: if "most recent" means SpaceCat could take upgrading courses and be evaluated primarily on those, this could work. However, the competitive cutoff for HS applicants is mid-80s, and it is unclear how competitive transfer admission is. The note that "we will review your overall academic record for extra evaluation purposes" is a caveat. No CASPer or non-academic components. Worth applying, but confirm with admissions how "most recent" is defined for transfer evaluation.
Cambrian College
Moderate fit -- Like the other Ontario college standalone BScN programs, Cambrian is a first-entry program based on Grade 12 marks. SpaceCat's strong high school marks are the primary asset here. THE KEY QUESTION: Cambrian does not publish how it evaluates applicants who hold a BA. The program requires OSSD or equivalent or mature student status, plus six Grade 12 U/M courses at 75% overall. If SpaceCat can apply based on her high school marks (mature student or otherwise), her strong HS grades should be competitive. However, there is no explicit confirmation that a BA holder's university transcript is ignored or that HS marks remain primary. Transfer credit policy requires 60% minimum in transferred courses and courses within 5 years. The absence of CASPer means SpaceCat's strongest non-academic asset cannot help. Needs direct confirmation from admissions on how a BA holder is classified.
Douglas College
Moderate fit -- The GPA window is small (30 credits / ~10 courses) and resettable by taking the specific prerequisites fresh. The minimum GPA of 2.67 is achievable. However, the first-qualified-first-admitted model means SpaceCat would join a waitlist after completing prereqs (average 2-2.5 years wait per forum reports). No CASPer and no non-academic components means her strongest assets cannot help. The wait time is the main drawback.
Georgian College
Moderate fit -- Georgian requires lower per-course minimums (70%) than Humber/Seneca (75%), which is slightly more favourable. SpaceCat's strong high school marks should meet the Grade 12 thresholds. As a transfer applicant, her university record will be assessed, but Georgian's language is somewhat more flexible: transfer applicants must "demonstrate potential for success through academic accomplishments" and have "no unfavourable academic performance (achievements less than 60%) in the last two years." If SpaceCat's university transcript has no grades below 60% in recent years, this may not be a barrier. The 5-year recency requirement for science/math prerequisites means she may need to retake or update her high school sciences. Available at Barrie and Owen Sound campuses, with Ontario Learn and Stay Grant available at Owen Sound.
Humber Polytechnic
Moderate fit -- SpaceCat's strong high school marks (75%+ in Bio, Chem, Math, English) could qualify her via the mature student pathway (21+ without college/university). However, as a BA holder, Humber classifies her as a "university transfer applicant" and will assess her post-secondary GPA as "a key factor." If post-secondary GPA doesn't meet requirements, high school may also be reviewed. The lack of CASPer means no way to offset GPA with non-academic strengths. The key question is whether Humber will evaluate her primarily on university GPA or allow her strong high school marks to carry weight -- this needs direct confirmation with admissions.
Kwantlen Polytechnic University (KPU)
Moderate fit -- The GPA window is small (~27 credits / ~9 courses) and fully resettable by taking the specific prerequisites fresh. Minimum GPA not published but competitive entry applies. If CASPer is still used, SpaceCat's high score would be a significant asset. If CASPer has been removed, this becomes purely GPA-ranked. The 3-year program (6 semesters) with two intakes per year is efficient. Worth confirming CASPer status.
Lakehead University (School of Nursing)
Moderate fit Lakehead's general university transfer minimum is 60%, but the nursing-specific requirement is an 80% admission average (stated for "high school and mature student admits"). Whether this 80% applies to university transfer applicants, and whether it is calculated on university GPA or HS marks, is UNCLEAR. The prerequisite requirements (ENG4U, SBI4U, SCH4U, 4U Math with min 60% each) can be met from HS or post-secondary equivalents. If SpaceCat can be evaluated on upgrading courses at 80%+, this is achievable. Contact admissions to clarify.
Langara College
Moderate fit -- The GPA window is the smallest of all BC programs (~5 prerequisite courses, fully resettable). The degree holder priority is a significant advantage for SpaceCat. However, the competitive GPA of 3.6 is very high, and without CASPer or any non-academic components, SpaceCat's experiential strengths cannot help. The degree holder priority could be the deciding factor -- if it substantially lowers the effective GPA threshold, this becomes a strong option. Confirm the actual GPA differential for degree holders.
Laurentian University (School of Nursing, Faculty of Education and Health)
Moderate fit Laurentian's published criteria focus on high school marks (best six 4U/M, minimum 75%). If SpaceCat can be evaluated on her strong HS marks despite holding a BA, this is a realistic target. However, it is UNCLEAR whether having a completed degree forces evaluation on university GPA. Mature students without a post-secondary degree are ineligible for the English BScN — paradoxically, this may mean degree holders ARE eligible but the evaluation basis is unknown. Small program with limited seats (6 reserved for Indigenous students). Northern Ontario location. CRITICAL: Contact admissions to clarify evaluation basis for 105 applicants with a completed degree.
Loyalist College
Moderate fit -- Loyalist is notable for requiring 75% per core course (stricter per-course minimum than Sault/Cambrian). SpaceCat's strong HS marks should meet these thresholds if she had 75%+ in each of Grade 12 English, Math, Chemistry, and Biology. THE KEY QUESTION: Loyalist does not publish a separate post-secondary applicant pathway. The mature student pathway (21+, not attended full-time post-secondary in 5 years) requires the SAME Grade 12 marks at 75% per core course. SpaceCat has a BA from Dalhousie and may have attended post-secondary within the last 5 years, which would disqualify her from the mature student pathway. If she is more than 5 years out, the mature student route explicitly requires ONLY the Grade 12 marks -- no university GPA mentioned. This makes timing critical. Additionally, Loyalist is in Belleville -- a reasonable location in eastern Ontario.
Memorial University of Newfoundland
Moderate fit -- THE KEY QUESTION: Memorial uses the HIGHER of (a) a single semester's average (min 3 courses from the prior calendar year) or (b) cumulative average. This is favourable: SpaceCat could take one strong semester (3+ courses at 70%+) in the year before application and have that be her admission average. The 70% threshold is relatively low. However, CASPer is NOT required for 2026, removing SpaceCat's strongest non-academic asset. NL residency priority limits OOP seats. The accelerated option is paused at MUN St. John's (only available at Western Regional). Six campus sites across NL increase total seats but require NL relocation. Very low tuition (~$3,740/year OOP) is a plus. The "higher of" GPA calculation plus low tuition offset the NL priority restriction somewhat.
Nipissing University (School of Nursing)
Moderate fit If Nipissing evaluates SpaceCat on her strong high school marks (best six 4U/M), this is promising given the mid-80s competitive average. However, it is UNCLEAR whether holding a BA forces evaluation on university GPA. The collaborative with Canadore has ended; Nipissing now runs a standalone BScN. Small program (60-100 seats) makes it competitive. CRITICAL: Contact admissions to confirm evaluation basis for 105 applicants.
Sault College
Moderate fit -- Sault is UNIQUELY INTERESTING among Ontario college BScN programs because it explicitly has a post-secondary applicant pathway: "a minimum 2.8 GPA or 70% in the most recent year of postsecondary studies." THE KEY QUESTION: The "most recent year" language means SpaceCat could potentially take one year of courses to establish a new "most recent year" at 70%+. However, she still needs the four Grade 12 4U prerequisites AND the post-secondary GPA must meet the 2.8/70% threshold. If her Dalhousie GPA in the final year was below 70%, this is a barrier without upgrading. The 2.8 GPA (70%) minimum is relatively low compared to what is likely competitive. Northern location means Ontario Learn and Stay Grant could cover full tuition.
Seneca Polytechnic, Seneca Nanji Foundation School of Nursing
Moderate fit -- Like the BSNF Fast Track, this is a first-entry program from high school. The admission requirements are identical: OSSD with 75% in Grade 12 Bio, Chem, Math, English. SpaceCat has strong high school marks that likely meet these thresholds. However, as a BA holder, Seneca will classify her as a transfer applicant and will assess her post-secondary record. Seneca's general admissions policy states transfer applicants are evaluated on post-secondary courses and grades. The critical unknown is whether Seneca will primarily use her university GPA or allow her high school marks to determine eligibility. No CASPer or supplementary components means no way to offset GPA with non-academic strengths.
St. Lawrence College
Moderate fit -- St. Lawrence has a post-secondary applicant pathway (70% or 2.80 GPA overall, good academic standing), but unlike Sault College, it does not specify "most recent year" -- it appears to be an overall requirement. THE KEY QUESTION: The 70%/2.80 GPA threshold is applied to "most recent post-secondary education" per the search results, meaning SpaceCat's weak cumulative university GPA could be a barrier. However, the 2.80 GPA is a minimum, not a competitive cutoff, and the page says the overall average must meet this standard plus "good academic standing with your last college or university." If SpaceCat's Dalhousie record shows good standing (not on probation), she may meet the minimum. Three campus locations (Kingston, Brockville, Cornwall) increase available seats. Highly competitive program -- ranking by academic grades with February 1 equal consideration date.
Thompson Rivers University
Moderate fit -- TRU is one of the most interesting out-of-province options. THE KEY QUESTION: SpaceCat, with 120+ credits from Dalhousie, would be classified as a post-secondary applicant and ranked on her "last 30 credits." This means she could take 10 courses (~1 year) to fully reset her admission GPA. The competitive post-secondary GPA was 3.33 (achievable with focused upgrading). CASPer is required, which is a significant asset. HOWEVER: once classified as post-secondary, HS marks are NOT used ("Students will either be ranked in the high school or post-secondary category"). SpaceCat's strong HS marks would NOT help. The 30-credit window plus CASPer make this a solid moderate fit with ~1 year of upgrading. Kamloops, BC location requires relocation.
Trent University, collaborative with Fleming College (Trent/Fleming School of Nursing)
Moderate fit Trent explicitly states that university applicants need a minimum 2.7 GPA (70%) on a minimum of two semesters of full-time study, and high school marks are NOT used. This means SpaceCat's strong HS marks cannot help. However, the 70% minimum is relatively low. If SpaceCat takes one year of upgrading courses (two full-time semesters) and achieves strong grades, she could meet this threshold. Note: applicants with more than two years of undergraduate work are directed to the Compressed Program instead. SpaceCat's completed BA (4 years) likely disqualifies her from the 4-year Collaborative and redirects her to the Compressed (28-month) stream.
Trinity Western University (TWU)
Moderate fit -- TWU is the most holistic BC BSN program: CASPer + nursing application + references + academic standing. SpaceCat's high CASPer and strong experiential profile could offset a weaker GPA. The unclear GPA calculation is a risk, but the multi-factor evaluation model is favorable. Private university tuition is a drawback. The faith-based community covenant may also be a consideration.
University of Calgary
Moderate fit The Fall 2026 lottery is a game-changer: SpaceCat only needs to hit a 3.0 GPA on her most recent 30 units (10 courses) to enter the lottery pool, then selection is random. The 30-unit window is resettable -- she could take 10 courses to establish a new GPA. The catch: no CASPer means her high CASPer score provides zero advantage. But the lottery equalizes all qualified applicants, which benefits someone who can clear the threshold but might not be top-ranked in a pure GPA competition. The 3.0 on 30 units is very achievable. **Degree holders are not explicitly excluded** from the standard BScN, unlike UAlberta.
University of Northern British Columbia (UNBC)
Moderate fit -- UNBC's "most recent 60 credits" GPA window is resettable (SpaceCat could take ~20 post-degree courses to fully reset, or her final 2 years at Dalhousie may be adequate). CASPer + statement of interest + resume + references create a multi-factor evaluation that plays to SpaceCat's strengths. The northern/rural location and focus may be a consideration. This is a 5-semester upper-division program (Years 3-4 of BScN) requiring 60 prior credits plus 24 specific prerequisite credits.
University of Prince Edward Island
Moderate fit -- THE KEY QUESTION: UPEI has a unique mechanism where university applicants can use degree-level courses in place of Grade 12 requirements AND receive a 15% bonus to each university course grade for ranking. This means SpaceCat could take 4-5 university-level courses (English, Math, Chemistry, Biology, one elective) at 60%+ each, and the +15% bonus would boost her ranking scores significantly. CASPer is 30% of the total admission score, adding further offset. HOWEVER: PEI residency priority limits OOP seats, and it is unclear how many seats are available for non-PEI applicants from the ~70 total. The +15% university course bonus is a distinctive advantage that makes UPEI more accessible than programs that evaluate HS and university applicants in separate pools. The lower threshold (60% vs 65%) for university courses is also favourable.
University of Regina and Saskatchewan Polytechnic (collaborative)
Moderate fit The 30-credit-hour window on most recent approved courses is resettable, similar to UCalgary. SpaceCat could take ~10 courses to establish a new competitive GPA. The 65% minimum is low. However: no CASPer means no advantage from her strong score, and "competitive admission average" is likely well above 65%. Degree holders CAN apply to the standard SCBScN (explicitly stated) but must choose between SCBScN and After Degree Nursing Program (ADNP) -- no transfers between them. The lack of CASPer makes this less attractive than USask.
University of Windsor (Faculty of Nursing), collaborative with St. Clair College
Moderate fit If Windsor evaluates SpaceCat on her strong high school marks (which the website does not rule out for 105 applicants), this could be a strong option. If they use university GPA, the 70% minimum is low but competitive averages are likely much higher. The lack of CASPer means no offset mechanism. CRITICAL: Contact admissions to clarify how a BA holder is evaluated.
Western University (Arthur Labatt Family School of Nursing), collaborative with Fanshawe College
Moderate fit The "last 10 full courses" GPA window is the key advantage. SpaceCat could take 10 new courses (~2 semesters = 1 year) and fully reset her evaluated GPA. The minimum is only 70%, and CASPer is required (unpublished weight). However, the competitive cutoff is likely well above 70%, and unlike McMaster, the CASPer weight is unknown. Still, the resettable GPA window makes this meaningfully more accessible than programs using cumulative GPA.
British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT)
Reach -- BCIT's BSN is a 3-year program (three terms/year) requiring 18 credits of specific post-secondary prerequisites. THE KEY QUESTION: BCIT does not differentiate between HS applicants and degree holders -- all applicants need both HS prerequisites (English 12, Chem 11, Math) AND post-secondary prerequisites. SpaceCat's strong HS marks meet the HS thresholds (67-73%). For the post-secondary component, she would need specific courses (Anatomy & Physiology within 3 years, Academic Writing, Intro Psych). Her BA from Dalhousie likely covers some prerequisites but Anatomy & Physiology must be within 3 years. Priority goes to those with 30+ post-secondary credits (which SpaceCat has). However, the competitive selection process is opaque ("select those applicants deemed to have the best opportunity for success") and without CASPer, SpaceCat's strongest non-academic asset cannot help. No published formula or GPA window for ranking. Multiple intakes per year (Jan, Apr, Sep) is a plus.
Cape Breton University
Reach -- THE KEY QUESTION: CBU has two pathways. (a) Direct Entry: Grade 12 marks primary (70% average in five courses). SpaceCat's strong HS marks could work here, but there is no published policy on how a BA holder is classified for the direct entry stream. (b) Advanced Standing: university credits with 60% minimum per course and 65% overall across 30 credits. The 60% per-course minimum and 65% overall are low thresholds, but SpaceCat would need specific science prereqs (Anatomy, Physiology, Microbiology, Statistics) she may not have from her BA. The program "primarily serves permanent residents of Nova Scotia" with limited OOP seats. Out-of-province tuition is ~$48K for 3 years (~$16K/year), significantly higher than NS residents. No CASPer means no non-academic offset. The combination of NS priority, higher OOP tuition, and no CASPer makes this a reach despite reasonable academic thresholds.
Dalhousie University, School of Nursing, Faculty of Health
Reach -- SpaceCat is an out-of-province applicant (Ontario resident) competing for "very limited" non-Nova Scotia seats. As a Dalhousie BA holder with more than 12 credit hours of Semester 3 prerequisites, she would be classified as a Semester 3 applicant (not Semester 1). The Semester 3 GPA calculation offers a "most recent year of studies (30 credit hours)" option that could be resettable, but the minimum is only 2.5/4.3 and competitive averages are higher. CASPer is required (her strength), but work experience is explicitly not evaluated. The severe out-of-province restriction is the primary barrier. Dalhousie is her alma mater, but that provides no documented admissions advantage.
MacEwan University
Reach -- THE KEY QUESTION: MacEwan classifies applicants with 24+ university credits as "Previous Post-Secondary" with a minimum 2.0 AGPA. However, the competitive AGPA for 2026/27 is 3.4-3.8, which is high. Unlike Mount Royal, MacEwan does not specify using only the "most recent" courses -- the AGPA calculation method is not detailed on the page (may be cumulative or on a subset). Without a clearly resettable GPA window, SpaceCat's weak Dalhousie GPA could drag down her AGPA even after upgrading. The competitive range of 3.4-3.8 is significantly higher than the 2.0 minimum. No CASPer confirmed, so SpaceCat's strongest non-academic asset may not help. The lack of detail about GPA calculation method and the high competitive average make this a reach. Must confirm AGPA calculation method with admissions.
McMaster University (School of Nursing), collaborative with Mohawk College
Reach Unlike the Accelerated stream (which uses most-recent 54 units), the Basic stream uses ALL undergraduate courses for GPA. SpaceCat's weak cumulative Dal GPA cannot be reset with a small window of upgrading. CASPer at 20% helps but cannot overcome a fundamentally weak cumulative GPA against competitors averaging 85%+.
Ontario Tech University (Faculty of Health Sciences), collaborative with Durham College
Reach No CASPer, no published non-academic components, and the program's evaluation of 105 applicants is opaque. The competitive range is low 80s (per OUInfo), which is more achievable than TMU's low 90s, but without a published GPA window or resettable mechanism, SpaceCat's weak cumulative GPA is likely a barrier. The program also enrolls 160-200 first-year students annually, suggesting moderate cohort size. The significant unknowns about 105 evaluation push this toward Reach rather than Moderate.
Queen's University, School of Nursing
Reach CASPer is not used (eliminating SpaceCat's strongest non-academic asset). The GPA is cumulative across all undergraduate courses, with no published window. Competitive average is high 80s. No meaningful way to offset a weak cumulative GPA. The Supplementary Application is a minor positive but its weight is unknown.
St. Francis Xavier University (StFX)
Reach StFX evaluates nursing applicants on 5 Grade 12 course prerequisites (English, Math, Chemistry, Biology, + one more), minimum 65%. SpaceCat's strong HS marks could be directly useful here IF those 5 specific courses are strong. However: CASPer has been dropped (eliminating her CASPer advantage), competitive averages are likely well above 65%, and there's no published post-secondary GPA pathway that would allow a reset. Transfer students submit both HS and post-secondary transcripts, but the HS courses appear to drive the ranking. This is a small program at a small university in Antigonish, NS.
Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU), collaborative with Centennial College and George Brown College
Reach This is the worst possible configuration for SpaceCat: no CASPer (her strongest asset), no written/interview component, Grades-Only admission, and cumulative GPA evaluation. The TMU site requires low 90s; even the Centennial site at mid 80s is cumulative. There is no mechanism to offset a weak university GPA.
University of Lethbridge
Reach The 4-year BN appears to evaluate ALL applicants on high school marks (5 courses), with no separate post-secondary GPA window. SpaceCat's strong HS marks could theoretically be useful here, but competitive averages are likely high. No CASPer means no advantage from her strong CASPer score. The Nursing Preparation Program (NPP) exists to help non-competitive applicants retake/improve prerequisite courses, but these are HS-equivalent courses, not a post-secondary GPA reset. The After Degree (BNAD) program would be a better fit for SpaceCat -- it uses CASPer + GPA on most recent 17 university courses -- but that's a separate program.
University of Ottawa (School of Nursing, Faculty of Health Sciences)
Reach Even if SpaceCat could be evaluated on her strong HS marks, the competitive admission average of 92-98% is extremely high. The program is undergoing a major transition (collaborative with Algonquin suspended; new standalone program launching). The second-entry program is also suspended. No CASPer or non-academic components to offset GPA.
York University (School of Nursing, Faculty of Health)
Reach York explicitly states the 4-year Direct Entry is "designed for individuals with no prior nursing education" and encourages those with prior university studies to consider the 2nd Entry program. While 105 applicants are technically eligible, York reviews "academic profile, from high school to the present" holistically, including "consistency of academic results over multiple years" and "repeated course attempts." SpaceCat's weak university GPA would likely hurt her in this holistic review. The competitive average is high 80s. The 2nd Entry program at York would be the more appropriate pathway for someone with a BA.
Red River College Polytechnic (RRC Polytech)
Not viable The AGPA calculation is disqualifying in practice. RRC calculates AGPA using ALL post-secondary 1000+ level courses, including "failed, repeated, forfeited, and excluded grades." SpaceCat's entire BA transcript -- every weak grade -- counts toward this AGPA. There is no recency window. No CASPer. No supplementary assessment. Pure cumulative GPA ranking. This is the opposite of what SpaceCat needs.
University of Alberta
Not viable
University of Victoria (degree-granting) / Camosun College (first 2.5 years)
Not viable -- The UVic/Camosun BSN requires ALL students to start at Camosun College for 2.5 years before transferring to UVic for the final 1.5 years. UVic explicitly states: "We do not offer the relevant courses in semesters 1 to 5; these are only offered at college partner sites." There is no direct entry to UVic for degree holders. Admission to Camosun is primarily on Grade 12 marks (competitive GPA on four courses), which would favour SpaceCat's strong HS record. HOWEVER, the practical issue is that SpaceCat would need to relocate to Victoria, BC for the full 4-year program. The program does not appear to address how a BA holder is classified for admission at Camosun. Prior degree holders may have "the third non-nursing elective waived and the academic writing requirement satisfied" but still do the full program. The combination of mandatory relocation to BC, full 4-year commitment starting at a college, and no CASPer advantage makes this impractical compared to Ontario options.
