Honours Bachelor of Science – Nursing (BScN) – Humber Polytechnic

SpaceCat Fit Notes

  1. CASPer: Not required. No CASPer or supplementary application components. details
  2. GPA window & upgrading strategy: High school Grade 12 marks (min 75% overall, 75% per core course). For university transfer applicants, post-secondary GPA is “a key factor” but high school may also be reviewed if post-secondary doesn’t meet requirements. details
  3. Experiential / written advantage: None – entirely grades-based; no essays, interview, or supplementary application. details
  4. Out-of-province: Open to all Canadian applicants via OCAS; no provincial restrictions. details

  5. Overall assessment: Moderate fit – SpaceCat’s strong high school marks (75%+ in Bio, Chem, Math, English) could qualify her via the mature student pathway (21+ without college/university). However, as a BA holder, Humber classifies her as a “university transfer applicant” and will assess her post-secondary GPA as “a key factor.” If post-secondary GPA doesn’t meet requirements, high school may also be reviewed. The lack of CASPer means no way to offset GPA with non-academic strengths. The key question is whether Humber will evaluate her primarily on university GPA or allow her strong high school marks to carry weight – this needs direct confirmation with admissions.

“If you are applying to a bachelor’s degree program, your post-secondary GPA is a key factor in the admission decision.”

“If the requirements are not met at the post-secondary level, your high school courses may also be reviewed.”

Quick Facts

Admission Requirements

GPA

“You are considered a college or university transfer applicant if you have completed some or all of a post-secondary level credential. Humber will assess your post-secondary courses and grades to determine admission eligibility. If the requirements are not met at the post-secondary level, your high school courses may also be reviewed.”

“If you are applying to a bachelor’s degree program, your post-secondary GPA is a key factor in the admission decision.”

“Applicants are required to disclose and provide academic transcripts for all course work completed at the postsecondary level.”

How Applications Are Evaluated

“Meeting the minimum requirements does not guarantee admission. Humber’s programs can be competitive, and the best-qualified applicants receive admission offers first.”

Mature Student Pathway

Humber defines mature applicants for degree programs as those 21 years or older who have not completed high school or postsecondary studies. For degree programs, mature applicants must still meet the specific U-level high school course requirements (75% in ENG4U, Math, SCH4U, SBI4U).

“You are considered a mature applicant if you have not completed high school or postsecondary studies and will be: … 21 years of age or older (for bachelor’s degree programs). … For degree programs, mature applicants must meet specific U-level high school course requirements. Admission testing cannot be used to satisfy these requirements.”

Critical for SpaceCat: Because SpaceCat has completed a BA, she does NOT qualify as a “mature applicant” under Humber’s definition. She would be classified as a university transfer applicant. The mature pathway is for people who have NOT completed post-secondary education.

“Note: Age is not the determining factor in identifying your applicant type. If you graduated from high school—even many years ago—and have not attended college or university, you are considered a secondary school applicant, not a mature applicant.”
