Quick Facts

Important Note: This Is a First-Entry Program

Unlike most other programs in this research set (U of T, York, McMaster, etc.), Carleton’s BScN is primarily a first-entry program designed for direct entry from high school. It is NOT a second-entry or accelerated program for students who already hold a bachelor’s degree. There is a very limited internal transfer pathway (see “Advanced Standing” below), but the program is not structured as a second-degree option. This is a critical distinction for SpaceCat’s situation.

Prerequisites

Since this is primarily a first-entry program, prerequisites are high school courses, not university courses:

Course Ontario Code Notes
English ENG4U Grade 12 University
Advanced Functions MHF4U Grade 12 University
Biology SBI4U Grade 12 University
Chemistry SCH4U Grade 12 University
2 additional 4U/M courses Any Best grades used

For non-Ontario applicants: Equivalent Grade 12 / senior-year courses in English, advanced mathematics, biology, and chemistry would be required. Carleton accepts out-of-province secondary school equivalents.

There are no published university-level prerequisite courses for first-year entry (unlike second-entry programs at U of T, McMaster, etc.).

How Applications Are Evaluated

No published weightings or rubric. The admissions page states that decisions are made “after the portfolio or supplementary application deadline” and that the supplementary application “will assist in the evaluation of their suitability for the program.” Holistic review is implied but not detailed. Academic average appears to be the primary screening factor, with the supplementary application used for further assessment.
